Channel 4 News gets video makeover

Updated on 20 May 2008

By Channel 4 News

We've changed the way we deliver video on channel4.com/news. New seven-day catch up service plus clips you can take away.

This week Channel 4 News has changed the way it delivers video to the web. Features include a brand new seven-day catch up service, the best packages of the day embedded into the page and the ability to share those packages across the web.

Watch again

For the first time watch Channel 4's flagship 7pm news programme (almost) in its entirety - rights and other restrictions allowing - via our new player:

This will default to the most recent programme and automatically play through all parts of the show. It will also act as a seven-day catch up service so you can flick between the tabs to watch a previous night's programme from the last week.

Embedded video

In addition to the player, key packages and interviews from the 7pm, News at Noon and More4 News will also be available to view separately.

These videos will not only be available in pop-up form by clicking on the 'Watch the report' link but will also be embedded into the page.

The embedded video can also be emailed to friends and colleagues by clicking the email icon below the video window.

Meanwhile, bloggers and others can take the code and embed the clips on to their own sites, YouTube-style. Simply click on the get code icon and follow the instructions.

Most watched, extended interviews

We've also launched a player that will let you watch the most popular clips of the week. It will also feature our recommended 'editor's picks' and extended versions of interviews you may have caught on Channel 4 News.

Now available on Macs (!)

Another major advantage of the new video player is that it will work on a wider range of operating systems and browsers. And unlike its predecessor it should work on Apple Macs as a matter of course.

Note, all users will need Adobe Flash 9 installed on their machines. To download a copy for free click here: Adobe Flash
