Our political editor Gary Gibbon looks back fondly on the time the inimitable Elinor Goodman reported in a wet floppy hat...

My favourite moment would be Elinor Goodman's live interview with leadership contender and former Chancellor Ken Clarke on Abingdon Green, in the pouring rain.

The BBC would have had a pagoda set up, and probably did. It was all very Channel 4 and vintage Elinor.

In the middle of the 2001 Tory leadership contest, they're both getting drenched, although Elinor is (slightly) protected by Ken Clarke's floppy hat. At the end of the interview, still live on air, Ken Clarke asks for his hat back and Elinor returns it to him.

It's stoical presenting, in dreadful weather, rounded off by a memorably funny moment.
