BBC 'lacked editorial judgment'

Updated on 21 November 2008

By John Sparks

BBC report concludes that the phone calls made by Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand to the actor Andrew Sachs were a "deplorable intrusion".

The BBC Trust's report into the obscene phone calls scandal has uncovered the email trail that led to the broadcast, saying the episode "lacked editorial judgement".

Radio 2's head of compliance said he thought the segment was "very funny", and controller Lesley Douglas, who resigned over the incident, simply replied "yes" from her Blackberry when asked whether the segment could be broadcast.
