London's Shepherd's Bush area has been named the UK's rock star hotspot, while Manchester is the most rock n' roll city.

A toy guitar website had conducted research into where the UK's most successful rock artists and band members, from the 1950s to the present day, were born and brought up.

The findings showed that Shepherd's Bush had produced more rock stars per head of the population than anywhere else in the UK - 1 in 1,222.

Those who have been born or lived in the west London district include members of the Who, the Clash and the Sex Pistols.

Bush's Gavin Rossdale named his band after the area where he lived and ex-Libertines and Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty has also spent time there.

London was the city which produced the most rock stars in the survey with 89.

But Manchester, which has spawned Morrissey, the Stone Roses and Noel and Liam Gallagher, was top in terms of proportion of the population.

Oxford, which has been home to members of Radiohead and Supergrass came after Manchester, while the Beatles' Liverpool came third.
