Ozzy Osbourne is to be crowned a "living legend" at the 2008 Classic Rock Roll of Honour in London.

Previous recipients of the award include Jimmy Page, Lemmy and Alice Cooper.

The rocker, also known as the Prince of Darkness, said: "I hear I'm a Living Legend, which is something I am grateful for.

"I couldn't be happier to know that Classic Rock haven't yet written me off!

"Seriously, it's a great honour and I'm looking forward to going to my first Classic Rock Awards in November, can't wait to see you there."

Stars battling it out for the other prestigious awards at the ceremony include Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Led Zeppelin, who are all up for three gongs each.

Kiss have been nominated for two awards - Band of the Year and Event of the Year, following a world tour and their slot at this year's Download Festival.

Stone Gods and Big Linda are also up for two gongs each and will face off in the Best New Band and Album of the Year categories.

The Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards takes place in London on November 3.
