Jimmy Cobb remembers Kind of Blue

Updated on 17 September 2009

By Stephanie West

Miles Davis released Kind of Blue in 1959. The drummer on the album, Jimmy Cobb, is in London to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Stephanie West went to speak to him.

Kind of Blue is hailed by many as the most important jazz album of all time - and is certainly the best selling.

But there is only one surviving member of the Miles Davis line-up that recorded this landmark album back in 1959, and that is the legendary jazz drummer Jimmy Cobb.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this most famous record, Cobb, who is now 80 years of age, is touring with his "So What" band, named after the album's most famous track.

He has arrived in London to play a special concert at The Tower of London (tonight Thurs), and he gave this exclusive interview to our arts reporter Stephanie West.
