Image of the day: Henry VIII letter
Updated on 23 April 2009
A love letter, written by Henry VIII to Anne Boleyn to convince her to become his second wife, goes on display at the British Library in London for the first time.
Concealed in the Vatican for almost five centuries, the letter is believed to almost certainly have been stolen from Lady Anne to serve as evidence against the King's divorce.
The letter was written in French around 1528. In it, Henry writes that 'henceforth my heart will be dedicated to you alone' followed by his wish 'that my body was so too'.
