Harry Potter has scooped three gongs at the inaugural National Movie Awards.

Daniel Radcliffe, 18, collected the title for best male performance for his leading role in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

The star beat off heart-throbs Orlando Bloom, Johnny Depp, Daniel Craig, and fellow Potter star Rupert Grint to the award, voted for by the public.

Emma Watson, 17, won the best female performance for her spellbinding role as Hermione Granger in the same movie, the most recent in the series.

She pipped rivals Dame Judi Dench, Eva Green, Kirsten Dunst and Keira Knightley to the award.

The fifth Potter film also won the best family film title at the ceremony, which took place at the Royal Festival Hall in central London.

There was more British success when Casino Royale, the latest Bond adventure, starring Daniel Craig, won best action/adventure movie, beating the likes of Die Hard 4.0 and Transformers.

The James Bond franchise also won the special recognition award at the event, which organisers hope will rival the Baftas as the UK's premiere film awards ceremony.

Hot Fuzz, the comedy starring Simon Pegg and Martin Freeman, beat Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and Mr Bean's Holiday to the best comedy title.

The Simpsons Movie won best animation, over rivals Shrek the Third, Happy Feet and Flushed Away.
