Who's going to the Oscars?

Updated on 22 January 2008

By Nicholas Glass

The nominations are out, but with Hollywood writers still striking, will the actors stay away from the ceremony?

A strike by the Writers' Guild of America disrupted the Golden Globes - and a similar scenario at the Oscars would prove disastrous for the film and television industries.

The writers strike, on since 5th November, shows few signs of resolution. This morning's nominations, announced traditionally at the crack of dawn in Beverly Hills, ended neutrally with this from the Academy President: "So please join us, if you can."

The path to Oscar glory

But the Coen brothers' No Country For Old Men and historical epic There Will Be Blood lead the field with eight Academy Award nominations each.
