The press speak out after Mills rant

The UK papers have shown little sympathy for Heather Mills following her TV outburst.

The national press have reacted with a mixture of anger and amusement after Heather Mills' claims on GMTV yesterday that they had driven her "to the edge".

Mills, who is going through a divorce from Sir Paul McCartney, told the breakfast TV channel that she had been given "worse press than a paedophile or a murderer" by the daily papers.

The Daily Mirror's Fiona Cummins claimed that Mills was "scathing" and "bitterly accused the press of hounding her."

Independent journalist Amol Rajan said: "Heather Mills launched a furious attack on 'a certain corner' of the tabloid press, claiming a hate campaign against her pushed her 'close to suicide'. (She) became highly emotional, broke down several times during the 20-minute interview."

The Sun who she attacked indirectly, simply laughed at her with the Beatles-esque words: "Help! She needs somebody."

The Guardian's Chris Tryhorn said she "launched an extraordinary tirade against the media", while The Metro described her outpouring as an "emotionally charged" "tirade" and The Telegraph simply said that Mills "broke down" during the interview.

The Sun who she attacked indirectly, simply laughed at her with the Beatles-esque words: "Help! She needs somebody."

Ms Mills has a four-year-old daughter named Beatrice with Sir Paul McCartney. Their divorce proceedings follow four years of marriage.
