Pixar's robot film Wall-E is hailed a masterpiece and cleans up at US box office

Updated on 11 July 2008

By Stephanie West

Wall-E is an animated film about a rubbish clearing robot that's compared to masterpieces like Citizen Kane.

Wall-E, the latest offering from the animation company Pixar, is hailed as "Al Gore's worst case global warming nightmare made real".

But according to its makers it's just a love story between two robots.

Now owned by Disney, some believe its anti-consumerist message may clash with bosses.

In any case, as with all Pixar films, it's gone straight to number one in America.
