Oliver Stone on George W Bush
Updated on 24 October 2008
On the red carpet with W director Oliver Stone.
The director's verdict
"You walk out of the movie, you know him better. That's not to say that you love him or hate him. Just that you understand. And if you do understand then you understand where America is now and what happened. Eight years of this guy - he changed the world."
"I think that Obama would be, and I think McCain would be creatures for reform. And reform is very difficult as you know. He's left us in a very dark hole."
Q. And who are you backing for the election?
"Personally, but it's not in my movie, it's Obama."
"People liked him enough in America to vote for him. I find that a great paradox and I think the movie shows you how he got there, who he is and what his mindset is."
"Certainly we worried that if he had been more successful in the last year we would be under more pressure, he would be maybe attacking Iran. So we're lucky in a sense that he did deconstruct himself with his excess."
