Although seriously ill, the 83-year-old managed to narrate the full length docu-film which finally opens in British cinemas this weekend.

The Meerkats follows a family of  the tiny creatures in the drought plains of the Kalahari and Newman's narrative was written by the author, Alexander McCall Smith.
