Fashion icons or superheroes?

Giants of fashion, film and music have turned out in New York for the annual Costume Institute Gala.

Powercouples like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Victoria and David Beckham, and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony walked the red carpet at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year's theme was Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy, featuring costumes from movies like Batman, Spiderman and the latest superhero movie - Iron Man.

Supermodel Kate Moss and designer Donatella Versace were there from the catwalk, while Beyonce, Janet Jackson and David Bowie represented the music world.

Actors Julia Roberts and George Clooney hosted the evening.
