'Farrah Fawcett recovering in hospital'

Actress Farrah Fawcett, who has been battling cancer, is expected to be discharged from hospital this week after undergoing surgery.

The 62-year-old former Charlie's Angels star was diagnosed with the disease in 2006 and has made several trips to Germany for treatment, including a "minor procedure" in the country last week. She has been recovering in a Los Angeles hospital.

"She remains in good spirits with her usual sense of humor," her physician Dr Lawrence Piro said. He added: "If everything goes as we hope, we plan to discharge her later in the week."

Fawcett's representative Craig Nevius said reports that his client is in a serious way are untrue.

"She's not on death's door," he said.

One report said Fawcett's cancer had spread to her liver but that could not be immediately confirmed. Dr Piro declined to comment on that report.

Fawcett, a native of Texas, gained fame as a model in the 1970s and was cast in the famous Aaron Spelling TV show about three beautiful private investigators.

She posed for a famous swimsuit poster in April 1976 which was released around the time of the show's first episode later that year. It went on to sell a whopping 12 million copies.

Starring alongside Jaclyn Smith and Kate Jackson, Fawcett was the show's top attraction, but she quit at the end of its first season. After being sued for breach of contract, she made a few guest appearances in subsequent years.

Fawcett went on to earn Emmy nominations for her performance as a domestic violence survivor in 1984's The Burning Bed and for parts in 1989's Small Sacrifices and 2001 drama The Guardian.
