Euro 2008 gets British voice
Updated on 16 May 2008
British opera singer Natasha Marsh is set to become the voice of this summer's Euro 2008 football championships.
The glamorous 27-year-old soprano has recorded The Queen Of The Night Aria from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute as the theme tune for ITV's coverage of the tournament, which kicks off in Austria and Switzerland next month.
The aria is said to be one of the most demanding in opera because it requires sopranos to hit a high F6 note.
Marsh, who also sang the National Anthem before the Carling Cup Final in February, enjoyed massive success when her debut album Amour went straight in at No1 in the UK classical charts last year.
The football-loving singer said she was thrilled when she was approached with the offer, saying: "I was delighted to do it. I love football, it is a phenomenal piece of music by Mozart, and also I love the passion, beauty and power that football and music share."
Marsh has performed with quartet Il Divo, tenor Russell Watson and Classical Brit award winners Blake and is preparing to tour with Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts this summer.
