Duchess film draws parallels with life of Diana, Princess of Wales

By Stephanie West

Updated on 20 August 2008

As the story of Georgiana Spencer is turned into a film, The Duchess, its marketing is raising eyebrows.

Her loveless marriage inspired Sheridan's School for Scandal and the latest incarnation of her life is based on the award-winning biography of the 18th-century aristocrat who set the fashions of her day.

But while the film is draws parallels with her most famous descendent, Princess Diana, the use of the tagline "there were three of them in their marriage" have raised eyebrows about the marketing campaign.
