Cole hails husband's 'beautiful soul'

Cheryl Cole has revealed her battle to control her weight and her struggle following claims her husband cheated on her.

In a frank interview with Vogue, the Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge reportedly described the allegations of infidelity by footballer husband Ashley Cole as "horrendous".

Cole, 25, appears on the front cover of the February edition of the magazine, out this Thursday.

In January last year Aimee Walton, a 22-year-old hairdresser, claimed that the Chelsea footballer had sex with her after a heavy drinking session.

In the interview, Cole said her husband is "a really nice guy", though admitted he could also be immature.

"Ashley's young and he's got a young mentality - for his age anyway," she said.

"He's learning. He has a beautiful soul, he's a really nice guy and I'm not stupid, you know. I'm really not.

"I know what I'm doing. I've had enough knocks in the past to know what the circumstances are, and I'm happy. If other people aren't, then that's their problem."

Cole, who posed in pink sequinned trousers for the shoot, also talked of her struggle to control her weight.

Photographs of the singer looking painfully thin last year sparked fears for her health.

However, Cole recalled bursting into tears when she could not fit into a pair of jeans in 2003, during her first year as a Girls Aloud member.

"I remember being in Selfridges and taking these size 28s into the changing room and not being able to get them on, and then getting on the scales and crying because I was nine and a half stone. Nine and a half stone when I'm only 5ft 3in.

"Jennifer Aniston was doing something called the Atkins Diet at the time and I thought I'd give it a try.

Cole fronts the famous magazine six years after, as an unknown, she auditioned for Popstars: The Rivals.

Victoria Beckham, 34, only made the cover of the fashion bible in March, 12 years after the Spice Girls shot to fame with their debut Number One, Wannabe.

More viewers are watching the X Factor since the Newcastle-born star was recruited to replace Sharon Osbourne as a judge on the show.
