No more spikey, glass-panelled avant garde visions. Instead Prince Charles has urged architects to look to the past in order to create better buildings.

At a dinner this evening marking the 175th anniversary of the Royal Institute of British Architects, the heir to the throne will say that buildings should fit the scale and historic character of their surroundings.

But the prince is facing a backlash over his controversial views, with calls for a boycott of his speech.
