The Prince of Wales is to rub shoulders with pop royalty when he meets Sir Cliff Richard at the Royal Variety Performance later.

The pop veteran will perform with his old backing group, The Shadows, in what is expected to be the star turn of the evening.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall will also be entertained by Take That and Hackney diva Leona Lewis and Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson.

Sir Cliff and The Shadows had their first hit 50 years ago with Move It.

And the heartthrob has enjoyed a huge string of hits ever since.

Others stars in attendance at the event at the London Palladium include entertainer Graham Norton and songstress Duffy.

The Royal Variety Performance is a charity event in aid of the Entertainment Artists' Benevolent Fund.
