Restaurants owned by celebrity chefs have once again come out on top in the latest edition of the foodies bible the Good Food Guide.

Established chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Heston Blumenthal saw off the advances of the new guard of talented young chefs to retain the top spots in the 2009.

The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, owned by experimental television chef Heston Blumenthal, once again took first spot out of the 40 restaurants assessed.

Blumenthal's restaurant was the only one to be awarded ten out of ten by the guide.

Gordon Ramsay's self titled London-based restaurant Gordon Ramsay came in second place with nine points.

Stylish London eatery Petrus has risen four places from last year's guide to take third place in the table, relegating Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aix Quat Saisons to fourth spot.

But new chefs make their presence felt in the new guide.

Chef Nathan Outlaw from Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall, comes 11th in the table.

Shaun Rankin at Bohemia in Jersey in 17th position was praised as a "hugely accomplished talent, cooking at the top of his game".

Good Food Guide's editor Elizabeth Carter said: "Is the old guard about to be toppled? These are exciting times for the UK restaurant scene with some really talented young chefs emerging who could go all the way to the top."
