British director Danny Boyle has won a prestigious award at a foreign film festival.
His new film, Slumdog Millionaire, scooped the Cadillac People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film charts the life of Jamal, a young teenager living in the Indian slums.
Jamal attempts to escape the grinding poverty by becoming a millionaire in the Indian equivalent of television game show Who Wants To be a Millionaire.
Previous winners of the Canadian award, which is voted by the public, include the London gangster film Eastern Promises by acclaimed director David Cronenberg.
The win is the latest triumph in 51-year-old Boyle's glittering career.
The Manchester-born director has received critical acclaim for previous gritty works such as Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and the Brit zombie-horror film 28 Days Later.
