Ian McEwan on the Blair years

Britain under Blair was more than policies. His ten years in office were a cultural period as well as a political one. Who better to discuss that cultural legacy than the award winning novelest Ian McEwan.

He rose to prominence in in 1997 winning the Booker prize in 1998 for his novel Amsterdam. Later in the Blair period he wrote Saturday, set on 15th of February 2003

Ian McEwan there's little more dramatic than the opening of enduring love, you have the balloon crash and you feel something significant is going to happen in the book.

The beginning of the Blair years, triumphant down Downing street hands open to the treasury, people on the balconies, it was a big beginning.
