Corinne Bailey Rae's husband died from a suspected drug overdose, according to a preliminary report.

Musician Jason Rae, 31, was discovered at a flat in the Hyde Park area of Leeds.

An inquest into his death heard how a pathologist had formed the initial conclusion after carrying out a post-mortem examination, but that further tests were needed.

Detective Superintendent Steve Payne told the hearing at Leeds Coroner's Court: "There were no signs of any trauma or violence or any obvious significant natural disease signs."

Deputy assistant coroner Robert Chapman said the pathologist's report pointed to a "suspected drugs overdose and there's no evidence of any injuries or disease".

Mr Chapman also agreed for his body to be released to his family for burial at the hearing, which was not attended by the singer-songwriter or any members of the Rae family.

Officers arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs before later releasing him on bail pending further inquiries.

Scottish-born Rae was a saxophonist with funk band the Haggis Horns.

Bailey Rae met her husband, originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, while working as a cloakroom attendant at a Leeds jazz club and the couple married in 2001.

The 29-year-old is said to be devastated by her husband's death.

Well-wishers have left tributes to Mr Rae and messages of support for Corinne - who shot to fame in 2006 with the release of her self-titled number one debut album - on internet fan sites.

The eight-piece Haggis Horns, who have played as a backing band for Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Bailey Rae herself, recently released a well-received debut album called Hot Damn!
