An Arts Council exhibition curated by Grayson Perry "encapsulates the spirit of post-war Britain". Stephanie West reports.

Unfashionable and unpopular - not the obvious choice of works for the Arts Council's touring exhibition.

But Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry has brought together a collection which he says encapsulates the true spirit of post-war Britain: one of quiet nostalgia and restraint.

The 70 pieces include some by well known names, from sculptors Anthony Caro and Barbara Hepworth to photographer Martin Parr.

The show opens at Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, this weekend.
