Inside Dumfries House

Updated on 11 July 2007

By Nicholas Glass

Channel 4 News looks inside the newly restored Dumfries House which was saved for the public by Prince Charles and has not been seen by the public before.

Beautifully designed, perfectly preserved and very rarely seen: Dumfries House in Ayrshire is a Palladian mansion with a jaw dropping collection of 18th century furniture - and its just been saved for the nation.

Prince Charles intervened at the 11th hour, keeping it open to the public - just as it was about to be sold privately.

He stumped up nearly half of the £45m needed, without ever having visited the house.

It has not been filmed before now, our Arts Correspondant Nicholas Glass has had the first peak inside.
