A first glimpse at The Dark Knight

The long awaited trailer for the next Batman film has been released on the internet.

The Dark Knight, which stars Christian Bale as a man who has the double identity of Bruce Wayne and Batman is the sequel to the action-thriller, Batman Begins.

The film's characters are based upon the characters from comic books published by DC Comics and created by iconic comic book writer Bob Kane.

New cast members joining the series include; Oscar nominee Heath Ledger who takes on the role of villain, The Joker, Aaron Eckhart who plays District Attorney Harvey Dent and Maggie Gyllenhaal who joins the cast in the role of Rachel Dawes.

Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Lieutenant Jim Gordon and Oscar winners Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, as Alfred and Lucius Fox respectively.

The Dark Knight is scheduled for global release on July 18, 2008.
