Radovan Karadzic, Europe's most wanted man, is arrested in Belgrade
Updated on 22 July 2008
Radovan Karadzic orchestrated Europe's bloodiest conflict since WWII, and evaded international justice for more than a decade.
Disguised as an old doctor of alternative medicine who gave lectures on spirituality, Radovan Karadzic spent 12 years on the run, unrecognisable beneath a heavy beard and glasses.
Now he is in custody, and a judge has ordered his transfer to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
The former Bosnian Serb leader has been indicted for genocide and other crimes against humanity committed during the Bosnian war following the break-up of the old Yugoslavia.

'He refused to talk and asked where he was. Was it the police, in court, where? They replied - it's not important'Sveta Vujacic, Radovan Karadzic's lawyer
Quotes from Radovan Karadzic's lawyer, Sveta Vujacic. talking to Channel 4 News tonight:
"I'm 100 % sure that Luka Karadzic - I mean Radovan Karadzic was arrested on July 18th at half past nine. He was on bus 73 on his way from New Belgrade to Batajnica. Somewhere around 'Teleoptik' bus stop named after the factory nearby.
"Three civilians entered the bus and approached while he was reading some magazines, they showed him some badges which were unknown to him, thinking they were ticket inspectors.
"They told him to leave the bus which he did, they blindfolded him, put him in the car and he was driven for 20 minutes by his estimation.
"When they took off the blindfold, he realised he was in a small room, with only a table and chair. Those people, who were very fair, asked him if he wanted to talk to them.
"He refused to talk and asked where he was... Was it the police, in court, where? They replied - it's not important."
