Brown "profoundly regretted" data loss

Gordon Brown apologises for data crisis, but Opposition leader David Cameron accuses Revenue and Customs of "systemic failure".
Gordon Brown has ordered a check of data security at all government departments. He has also told the Commons that he "profoundly regretted" the loss of two CDs containing millions of people's personal details.
The Conservative leader David Cameron accused the government of failing in its duty to protect the public. He said there had been a "systemic failure" at Revenue and Customs, which had been formed when Mr Brown was Chancellor.
The Prime Minister defended the Chancellor Alistair Darling and said there was no reason for him to resign.
