Officers investigating the incident at Gleision Colliery on 15 September have arrested pit manager Malcolm Fyfield, 55.

He was arrested at his home and is now in custody at Port Talbot Police Station.

Four men – Philip Hill, 44, Charles Breslin, 62, David Powell, 50, and Garry Jenkins, 39 – died after becoming trapped in the mine in Cilybebyll, near Swansea, in September, despite frantic efforts to rescue them. Police are working with the Health and Safety Executive to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
