Biography
Carl Dinnen reports and presents for Channel 4 News.
He first joined the programme in 1996 as a producer - dodging plastic bullets at Drumcree, searching for kidnappers in Yemen, talking to Brits about working for the Chinese in Hong Kong and eventually graduating to work on a full scale international conflict in Kosovo.
Carl left Channel 4 News to become GMTV's Ireland correspondent in 1999. He covered September 11th and its consequences from New York and Pakistan.
He returned to Channel 4 News as Midlands correspondent in 2002 thus becoming, probably, the first reporter to go from Channel 4 to GMTV and back. It is something of which he is unaccountably proud.
From the Midlands Carl covered the Soham murders, the end of Rover and was nominated for a Mental Health in the Media award for a story about the psychological problems facing soldiers returning from Iraq.
He was embedded with a US Army artillery battalion as they invaded Iraq and drove through the desert to Baghdad. He also reported from Camp Dogwood when the Black Watch were stationed there.
He's now back in London reporting and making the odd appearance as a presenter.
