Now you may remember before Christmas we asked you to nominate the person you felt had made the most influential contribution to British politics last year.

So who do you think deserves the Channel Four News Viewers' Award, part of our channel's Political Awards. Well, it's now time to reveal our shortlist of six for whom you can cast your vote.

For the first time, we asked you to cast your eyes beyond MPs, Peers and professional politicians, and you've come up with some interesting choices.

Already we've received hundreds of emails. And your reasons for voting make fascinating reading. But now there are just six finalists.

Can you guess who one viewer described as: "He may be a weasely little man who cheated on his wife, but at least he had the integrity to resign over the war." Yes, Robin Cook is the first nominee. The former Leader of the House has never been more popular after he resigned over the war in Iraq.

One viewer chose the next politician: "for knocking off one dictator! BRILLIANT!!!!" Tony Blair survived 2003. So many viewers still support the Prime Minister despite the absence of Weapons of Mass Destruction and rebellions over Foundation Hospitals and Tuition Fees.

Our next got votes: "because he's a pain to Tony Blair." George Galloway is the final politician to be nominated.

Expelled from the Labour Party after he suggested British Soldiers shouldn't follow orders in Iraq. Now suing the Telegraph after they made allegations about his relationship with Saddam Hussein's regime.

The next nominee is described as: "a man of integrity who risked everything to expose the lies and deceit of government." The late Dr David Kelly was a whistleblower who voiced his concerns over a Government dossier on Iraq and exposed a culture of secrecy and spin.

Now can you tell who got votes: "for having the guts to remind us that "the emperor is (still) naked"! Benjamin Zephaniah - poet and political activist blew the lid on an antiquated honours system and made it cool to turn down a gong.

The final nominee got your votes for: "highlighting the scandalous way in which fathers get treated by the courts over contact with their children." Will Protester David Chick get the viewers award? He dressed as Spiderman and spent six days up a crane demanding access to his daughter. The stunt caused traffic chaos around Tower Bridge - but he put the issue firmly on the agenda.
