Although the entries for this year’s Rory Peck Awards reflect the Iraq war, these awards prove once again that it is the freelancers who, with courage and passionate involvement, are committed to recording ongoing conflicts and issues around the world.


Glenn Middleton



Glenn is a freelance cameraman/editor working in Southern Africa. Primarily working for the BBC over the past fifteen years, he has covered newsgathering stories around the world ranging from the post Apartheid years in South Africa to the ongoing wars that continue to destabilize the African continent.

He was assigned to work in Afghanistan, and documented the relentless bombing raids by American and British forces.



Moving forward with US Marines Glenn was one of the first cameramen to film the Occupation of Tikrit in Northern Iraq.



During the Genocide in Rwanda Glenn worked for the Panorama Program which documented the events that shocked the world and made history.



A JOURNEY INTO DARKNESS won the best foreign documentary of the year award for the Royal Television Society of Journalists. (RTS 1994).



In Feb 2000 he worked on Panorama’s THE DYING GAME, which was nominated for an Emmy award. Over the past years Glenn has worked with many renowned correspondents thus giving him vast experience in filmmaking and production.



Glenn has completed the BBC’s “Hostile Environments and NBC courses, “Nuclear, Biological & Chemical Warfare”
