An Iraqi Writes
Iraq

Published: 13-Mar-2003

What is life really like inside of Iraq for the average citizen right now? We present diary extracts written by someone currently in Iraq.

Chemical Warfare:

All the Iraqis are aware of the weapons of massive destruction, but who is going to use them!?!

So to be safe, we have prepared some sort of masks for protection. These were originally surgical masks but we have stuffed them with carbon, salt, and cotton to act as filters. I gave every one of my brothers and sisters one of these each.

They keep them in their school bags, so if you open their bags you would find books, pencils, sharpeners, eraser and a mask! You will find pictures explaining what I am saying.

Masks with homemade filters  Stored water

Water:

My mother has stored us a good amount of water, enough for a week, which is kept in the internal garden in our house.

But some other obsessive people have stored a lot of bottled water, and as a matter of fact, the price of one bottled water is now 750 Iraqi dinars (the price of a Pepsi can is the same). A few months ago the bottled water was only 100 Dinars.

On the other hand, one liter of gasoline or kerosene costs only 20 Dinars!!!!!!!!!
