Out This Week

30/07/2007

So the reign of Rihanna's 'Umbrella' is finally over. Timbaland snatched it off her and blew with all his mighty pop strength into it until it was all inside out and broken. Something that this week's role call of pop hopefuls will probably be quite happy about ...

The Cribs 'Moving Pictures' (Wichita)
The Cribs are liked by everyone: the indie band's indie band. They are also the indie band that no one understands why they're not more successful. 'Moving Pictures' might go some way to explaining that underachievement. All the ingredients for indie anthemia are here, but it lacks edge and pace. Ryan's vocals are just a little too ordinary and the melody not quite hummable, not quite shout-along-able. The band sound restrained; one drink away from breaking loose. It's all... almost. And almost is not enough.
