Out This Week
29/05/2007
It may have been another long weekend but the world of pop has beavered on to deliver the following releases to a shop near you. So was it worth their while or should they have been rain bathing with the rest of us...
Reverend And The Makers 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World' (Wall Of Sound)
It's fair to say Sheffield has created another funky monster in Reverend And The Makers. This electro-pop whirlwind is packed with challenging lyrics bemoaning what might have been and making the best of what is: "At least he's got a job for life"... he snipes in his Alex Turner-tinged drone, joining the 'let's all sing about average-ness' brigade currently led by the Kaisers and the Cribs. Should you care to purchase this release in ye olde CD format, it's worth listening to extra track 'The Last Resort' - a punk poetry duet with Manchester beatnik John Cooper Clarke. Quite something.

Scissor Sisters 'Kiss You Off'
Ana comes to the fore but should someone show her the door?
LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends'
James's friends will either charm you or send you insane.
Findlay Brown 'Losing The Will To Survive'
Can Findlay transcend the new folk bracket?
Marilyn Manson 'Heart-shaped Glasses'
They cop off in the video but is the song any cop?
Lloyd ft Lil Wayne 'You'
Will Lloyd be laughing all the way to the bank?
Digitalism 'Pogo'
A slice of loveable German electronica...
Modest Mouse 'Dashboard'
A Smith plus a shy rodent equals?
Stereophonics 'Bank Holiday Monday'
The timing of the release may be right but that's about it.
Rumble Strips 'Motorcycle'
The Devon brass merchants are off flying on their bikes.
