Out This Week

29/05/2007

It may have been another long weekend but the world of pop has beavered on to deliver the following releases to a shop near you. So was it worth their while or should they have been rain bathing with the rest of us...

LCD Soundsystem 'All My Friends' (DFA)
This fine single from James Murphy's acclaimed new album, 'Sound Of Silver', will either charm you or drive you insane, depending on how much caffeine you've consumed. The whole shebang is underscored with frenetic Steve Reich-esque piano chords, and is laced with initially lugubrious vocals which become increasingly emotive throughout. This single simmers with energy, but for goodness' sake don't listen to the album version. That WILL drive you insane. But it's a good-hearted number, and much more than just another dance record.

Scissor Sisters 'Kiss You Off'
Ana comes to the fore but should someone show her the door?
Findlay Brown 'Losing The Will To Survive'
Can Findlay transcend the new folk bracket?
Marilyn Manson 'Heart-shaped Glasses'
They cop off in the video but is the song any cop?
Reverend And The Makers 'Heavyweight Champion Of The World'
Can this religious lot take on the Monkeys' Sheffield chalice?
Lloyd ft Lil Wayne 'You'
Will Lloyd be laughing all the way to the bank?
Digitalism 'Pogo'
A slice of loveable German electronica...
Modest Mouse 'Dashboard'
A Smith plus a shy rodent equals?
Stereophonics 'Bank Holiday Monday'
The timing of the release may be right but that's about it.
Rumble Strips 'Motorcycle'
The Devon brass merchants are off flying on their bikes.
