Out This Week
27/08/2007
Kanye was strong enough to hold on to the top spot for a second week on Sunday - and his shades are a bit less ridiculous now that it's actually sunny - but let's see who the challengers are this week...
Kano ft Craig David 'This Is The Girl' (679)
If we counted the reasons we love the UK's second best MC (sorry, Sway is still king) then we'd need more than ten fingers. He once had a conversation with us about dinosaurs - which would be a good enough reason on its own. And he made our Glastonbury with a stunning freestyle duet with Damon Albarn. We're very excited about the new album but this is a false start. Craig David is all over it, from the tame beats, homogenized production and dated, smooth, repetitive vocal samples. It's hard to see this as anything other than an attempt by David to get back some 'edge' with the tradeoff that Kano hitches a ride to the Top 40 in his back pocket. Yuk.
