Out This Week
14/05/2007
Yep, it's pissing it down again, but that didn't stop another batch of records making it to the shelves. So which of this week's deluge had us singing in the rain and which had us running for cover...
Wiley '50-50' / 'Bow E3' (Big Dada)
Cheeky old Wiley, aka Eskiboy; that self-confessed pie-eating grime pioneer has released this rather fine offering from what is rumoured to be his last album, 'Playtime Is Over'. The menacing strut of '50/50' sees Wiley telling his story so far: 'I got a brand new deal'; 'My new album did more than convince me / I'm a star in the sky'. Confident chap, and he has every reason to be. Clearly worn out from bigging himself up on '50/50', he turns his attentions to his hometown on the flipside, 'Bow E3', which is jam-packed with squishy, frenetic beats thanks to producer Maniac. Exhausting, high-octane and exhilarating. Is it time for a nice lie-down now?

Mutya 'Real Girl'
Former Sugababe delivers a musical two-fingered salute.
The Cribs 'Men's Needs'
The video to this song was so raunchy it got banned.
Biffy Clyro 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies'
The Scottish rockers have gone all Flash Gordon on us.
Remi Nicole 'Fed Up' / 'Go With The Flow'
Where does she come on a scale of Kate Nash to Lily Allen?
Voxtrot 'Blood Red Blood'
Are indie guitars and orchestration a bit passé yet?
Maroon 5 'Makes Me Wonder'
Sunny Californian pop-funk with added frug agogo...
The Stills 'Destroyer'
It's actually much better than its ominous title suggests.
The Mitchell Brothers 'Sole Mate'
Mike Skinner's pals have fallen in love with, err, their daps.
Adjagas 'Lihkolas'
They may be 'yoik', but these Norwegians still make beautiful music...
