Out This Week
14/05/2007
Yep, it's pissing it down again, but that didn't stop another batch of records making it to the shelves. So which of this week's deluge had us singing in the rain and which had us running for cover...
The Stills 'Destroyer' (Drowned In Sound)
Montreal band The Stills might have been hiding away for a few years, but they've come striding confidently back into our consciousness with something rather special. Bursting with 'Let It Be'-esque keys, thumping drums and warm vocals, 'Destroyer' is short, sweet and upbeat, despite the ominous title. However, this may sound like good-natured indie pop, but don't be fooled: 'Only when you're dead I'll make you mine' snarls vocalist Tim Fletcher, 'I hate you and your blood'. Thanks, pal. But these dark twists are the tipping point of what makes this full-bodied track truly rather super duper.

Mutya 'Real Girl'
Former Sugababe delivers a musical two-fingered salute.
The Cribs 'Men's Needs'
The video to this song was so raunchy it got banned.
Biffy Clyro 'Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies'
The Scottish rockers have gone all Flash Gordon on us.
Remi Nicole 'Fed Up' / 'Go With The Flow'
Where does she come on a scale of Kate Nash to Lily Allen?
Voxtrot 'Blood Red Blood'
Are indie guitars and orchestration a bit passé yet?
Maroon 5 'Makes Me Wonder'
Sunny Californian pop-funk with added frug agogo...
Wiley '50/50' / Bow E3'
The East London grime merchant makes us want to lie down, in a good way.
The Mitchell Brothers 'Sole Mate'
Mike Skinner's pals have fallen in love with, err, their daps.
Adjagas 'Lihkolas'
They may be 'yoik', but these Norwegians still make beautiful music...
