Single Of The Week
08/05/2007
Mother Nature has seemingly buggered off on holiday and left us all windswept and wintery again. But let's see which of this week's singles blew us away and which were more like a case of the windy pops...
Feist 'My Moon My Man' (Polydor)
Leslie Feist is part of Canadian 'supergroup' Broken Social Scene, former flatmate and puppetmaster with Peaches (not that one) and also an incredible singer-songwriter in her own right (and you'll have heard her first single 'Mushaboom' on tons of adverts). Anyway, introductions over, 'My Moon My Man' is driven by a pounding piano-bassline and devilishly twanging guitar which contrasts with Feist's breathlessly sweet vocals and skips along irresistibly as just one of many beguiling pop moments on her surprisingly brilliant new album 'The Reminder'. However, the other songs don't have an accompanying video where she dances on one of those traveling walkways you get in airports. This one does.

Jamie T 'Sheila'
Can Bob Hoskins make this re-release any more worthwhile?
Maps 'It Will Find You'
A spooky, angry version of Air.
Funeral for A Friend 'Into Oblivion'
This record makes us want to look out of the window, in a bad way.
Scooch 'Flying The Flag (For You)'
Is our Eurovision entry a stinky old bag of poo or not?
McFly 'Baby's Coming Back'
The boys seem to be having a few problems hitting the right notes...
Linkin Park 'What I've Done'
It's hard to disappoint when you're this rubbish.
Jack Savoretti 'Between The Minds'
Jack sounds like he wants to get drunk and put his tongue in your mouth.
JoJo 'Anything'
Tiny pop poppet plus cheesey eighties sample equals?
Akon 'Don't Matter'
What's happened to Akon's boob/good song radar?
