Out This Week
03/09/2007
So 'Big Brother' is over for another year and you suddenly have an extra eight hours in your week. Why not make a start at filling this new expanse of free time by perusing this week's offering of singles...
Reverend And The Makers 'He Said He Loved Me' (Wall of Sound)
Now, this is an odd one. A nagging, schoolgirl-gossip hook flanked by the kind of indie-funk we can imagine drawing a medium-sized crowd at the Hacienda shortly before baggy was invented, set to a rhythm track of someone masticating gum. Lead singer John Maclure is the fellow Sheffield-ians Arctic Monkeys are referring to when they sing "dancing like a robot from 1984" which is utterly fascinating. But we're not convinced by his overly suave vocals so, on this single, we'd say we quite like The Makers, not so keen on the Reverend.
