Out This Week
03/09/2007
So 'Big Brother' is over for another year and you suddenly have an extra eight hours in your week. Why not make a start at filling this new expanse of free time by perusing this week's offering of singles...
Candie Payne 'One More Chance' (Deltasonic)
We were completely unconvinced by Liverpudlian Candie Payne when she was first waved in front of our ears. The combination of sixties girlpop and indie seemed too much like a record company contrivance to find the next Winehouse, which, while being utterly futile, did no favours to Payne's slight and reedy voice. But on 'One More Chance' she has the full weight of Mark 'I can make you sound funky' Ronson behind her and the two come up trumps with something not a million miles from The Pipettes if they had a decent producer like, say, Mark Ronson. Oh.
