Artist Biography
Dogs Must Be Carried is a comedy music collective whose primary belief is that the fun needs to be put back into music.

The collective was the brainchild of Richard Cray, a former radio producer and DJ, although you wouldn't have heard his shows unless you were either very ill, an insomniac or just really unlucky.

DMBC's repertoire includes original comedy songs, pastiches of certain artists, direct parodies of songs and the occasional mutant cover version, most of which were made using a low-fi ethic of no budget, hardly any instruments and an eight-track cassette Portastudio, although both editing and mastering are now done in the digital domain.

Initially, recordings were made purely for the amusement of friends. However, after several of these friends started chipping in with ideas, the parodies became more cutting - whilst still remaining affectionate towards their targets - and other material started to display the occasional original hook.

After four and a half years, DMBC successfully corrupted their target demographic when their co-written track United Kingdom of Whenever (a parody of Liam Lynch's hit United States of Whatever) received airplay from Christian O'Connell, Steve Lamacq and the legendary Dr. Demento.

In the summer of 2005, DMBC became the "house band" of leading independent podcast Comedy 365.

A self-funded debut CD, ALL OF US ARE STARS BUT SOME OF US ARE AIMING FOR THE GUTTER, was released in May 2006 on the collective's own label, The Flibbertigibbet Gramophone Label.

Work on new material is scheduled for 2007 and is likely to be premiered on Comedy 365, as well as made available for download at the collective's Audio Street page.

As well as all this, Richard is currently writing the first series of The Test Card, a self-written six-part sketch show for podcast, radio or - quite frankly - anyone who'll have it, as well as continuing to co-produce Sketch Club, a comedy showcase for new sketch and monologue talent, which will be returning to Downstairs at the King's Head in Crouch End, London for four dates in November and December.

He has also written material for ITV1's Shoot the Writers...but don't let that put you off.
