The Dirty Hand Shakes (formerly The Shakes) formed in the autumn of 2002 in Aberdeen, Scotland, and have been playing regularly since March 2003. The band members are:
Greg Burgess - bass Kevin and Greg met at school in Elgin and then went to college in Aberdeen. It was at college where they met Alan and Fraser. After a year of the odd late night drink here and there and a like minded take on all things musical; The Beatles, Elvis, Dylan, The Kinks, The Undertones, Oasis etc. The idea to form a band came about in order to maybe get some free drink and with Scott completing the line up, The Shakes were formed. After a few months of late night drinking and endless practising, and gaining their first recording experience at Captain Tom's Studio in Aberdeen, the band played their debut gig on the 24th March 2003 unleashing their own brand of guitar-driven pop. This meant the band was able to pick up a small but dedicated following, and create a bit of a buzz in the local press being described by The Evening Express as 'a wonderful mish-mash of muddy blues rock and quirky indie'. Northsound 2 provided the band with their first broadcast on radio with Tennessee Blues, being likened to The Doors with John Lennon on vocals. This was followed by the band playing their first sold out gig, in the tiny village of Aboyne, where two hundred locals turned out to see the guys despite a snow storm and two foot of snow outside. The band also received more radio coverage; with Peterhead based station Waves Radio playing the 'Beatles-esque' I Love Julie Newmar as part of UK Music Week 2006.
The new EP Confessions of a Binge Drinker is released in early 2007 with the guys hitting the road for a series of dates to promote the release. The story is just beginning. |
