Tungstem are a Metal/Grunge/Grindcore band based in Yeovil, Somerset.
Little is it known that the earliest traces of Tungstem date back to 1998 when John created a wide archive of potential songs, he was accompanied by a few close friends and they hung out in childhood bliss with nothing but plans and dreams.
Things kicked off in 2004 when the band had a brand new member line up formed in the first years of education with a new school, the resulting group consisted of John Boon on Vocals, Porch on Guitar, Ryan Lewis on Guitar, Dean Frost on Bass, Alex Gullis on Drums, and Jake Roberts as the bands Manager, with this new structure they were able to create some songs they could call their own, build a website, and promote themselves through a local music forum.
The band got a set together consisting of the songs they had produced, plus a few covers to draw attention to themselves as well as fill the timeslots required, and started playing gigs at bars, halls, and venues in the local area, and taking live video recordings to keep track of what was happening.
In the months that followed, Tungstem hired studio time in a nearby recording facility and recorded a 4 track EP which they titled Pain. Pain consists of the songs 1.Vehemence 2.Severed 3.Hide and 4.Suffer. With the addition of front/back/CD designs, the band produced a number of copies sealed in plastic wallets, and sold them to the small fan base at the time.
Problems arose and Alex left Tungstem to pursue a new path. Now requiring a drummer the group found the solution, Dean moved from playing bass for the band to playing drums, it was a breakthrough, Dean excelled far beyond what Alex had offered. In this fresh light despite now lacking a Bassist - Tungstem re-worked all the songs from the Pain EP, started writing songs that were superior to the ones previously made, and recorded basement demos of their progress. All of this excitement was boosted with the arrival of a new layer of noise to the music, brought by Jake as he took the position of Samples in the band.
A bassist was needed and a few new member/line-up introductions were considered and carried out but in the end Joe Blackburn was introduced as a temporary bassist to help the band out with their bass requirement. As well as being a talented bassist, Joe was actually already familiar with the band as he was previously the bassist back in 2004 before Dean. Recently Tungstem have recruted a brand new bassist, Dan King, and has played various recent gigs with them. With the arrival of the new bassist Tungstem went from strengths to strengths playing more gigs and winning local stars in their eyes competitions, all the while adding new songs and perfecting old ones until they were content with their work. In October of 2006 Tungstem set off to Torquay to record in Mojo studios after 3 days the work was complete.
