The Police grovel to Chilean president

06/12/2007

The Police have apologised to the Chilean President after inadvertently offending her.

The Isle Of Wight headliners, who are embarking on a tour of South America, upset President Michelle Bachelet when drummer Stuart Copeland implied she was less attractive than her Argentinean counterpart, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.

"The future President of Argentina would be good for one beer; yours would be good for four."

Copeland, who was "mortified" by the misunderstanding, which people have taken to mean Bachelet is a 'four pinter', wrote her a letter of apology.

"If by chance you are able, Sting, Andy Summers and I would welcome the opportunity to personally express our admiration for you and your wonderful country by extending an invitation to you and your guests to attend our performance," said Copeland in the letter, according to Reuters.
