Doherty apologises for drug relapse

Pete Doherty has apologised for letting people down with his drug relapse last week.

Representatives for the Babyshambles singer were forced to release a statement after a newspaper posted a video of the star apparently injecting drugs.

"Peter sadly relapsed last week and is now looking to check himself back into a rehab clinic," said a spokesman for EMI.

The news came as little surpise as Doherty told reporters about still craving drugs shortly before the relapse.

"He realises that he has not only let himself down but has let down those who trusted and encouraged his efforts.

"Peter would like to apologise to the medical staff, fans and well-wishers who have helped and encouraged his progress.

"He is filled with remorse for what he describes today as 'a stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame'.
