Leona Lewis to claim fastest selling album ever
13/11/2007
Leona Lewis's debut album, 'Spirit', is on course to be the fastest selling UK album of all time, if sales for the first part of the week are replicated in the second.
The 'X Factor' winner is on track to beat the record set by Arctic Monkeys with their debut album, 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not'', which sold 363,735 copies in its first week. 'Spirit' sold over 100,000 copies on its first day of release alone.
The sales figures will come a blow to Spice Girls, who were rumoured to have changed the release date of their album to avoid a chart clash with Westlife, and whose Greatest Hits compilation is now being outsold by the reality TV star four to one.
Other major album releases being overshadowed by Leona's stupendous sales include Led Zeppelin's 'Mothership' and Celine Dion's 'Taking Chances'.
