Katie Melua knocks Leona Lewis off top spot

17/12/2007

Katie Melua ended Leona Lewis's reign at the top of the singles charts yesterday with her duet with the late Eva Cassidy.

The 23-year-old singer, whose cover of Louis Armstrong's 'What A Wonderful World' is only available to buy at Tesco, went straight in at number one ending Leona's seven week stint at the top.

Proceeds from the single will go to the Red Cross.

Elsewhere, 17-year-old rapper Soulja Boy rose seven places to number three with 'Crank That', Mariah Carey went up four places to number four with 'All I Want For Christmas' on downloads alone and Girls Aloud rounded off the Top Five with 'Call The Shots'.

In the album chart, Leona held onto the top spot for a fifth week with 'Spirit', Westlife stayed at number two with 'Back Home', Canadian crooner Michael Buble rose 17 places to number three with 'Call Me Irresponsible', and Led Zeppelin went up four places to number four with 'Mothership' in the wake of their reunion show.

There were no new entries in the Top 75 albums.
